We
have also received another letter from a Phyllis Mossop of America, which
included a crest of the "MOSSOP" family. Further research in a
book in Millom Library found the origin of the crest as follows :- MOSCROP or MOSSOP. John Moscrop, of Whole House, Seascale ( b 1713), was father of the Rev Henry Mossop (1748 - 1822), curate of Cleator 1772-1821, and of the Rev John Mossop (1754 - 1834), curate of Deeping St James, Linc whose great-grandsons were Arthur George Mossop, MRCS,LRCP of Maldon, Essex (1863 - 1923), the latter was a Master of Appeleby Grammar School in 1885. (Roughly translated to mean " Peace when searching your
family.)
